The Pallas is a frigate. The frigate is an obsolete vessel type that has replaced by the patrol boat. Compared to a patrol boat, a frigate is about two-thirds the tonnage. Its profile is shorter and chunkier but has the same number of decks. It has the same engines (and medical suite) as the patrol boat, giving it the same speed class. However, it is slightly less maneuverable. The frigate's main drawback compared to the patrol boat is its inability to carry ASREVs. The frigate's shuttle bays can accommodate only shuttles.
The Ambrosius was captured from Browncoats in a fleet action very early in the Unification War. It was decommissioned a few months later on Jerome Wade III's orders & due to be scrapped, but Wade snagged it off the reclamation line. He configured it as a yacht, and it was operated by his cousin Clarence Ray 'CR' Early. Early renamed it The Prize. He was out partying when Soren suggested his boss give him a ship to go help the Border & the Rim and thereby not notice what else the boss was skimming.
When Hathaway acquired the Pallas it was a yacht. The furnishings had been generally upgraded, and the main deck arranged as a salon. Over time, Hathaway has sold off most of the yacht fixins, and the Pallas is now configured for 130 tons of cargo on the main deck, 100 tons in the lower cargo hold, and 60 tons along the bulkheads in each shuttle bay. The Pallas has several hidey holes. One of the hidey holes contained a log recorder which has not yet been read.
At some point the ship was outfitted with an experimental stealth system / cloaking device. A second computer node appears to have been installed behind the bridge under the upper deck in the corridor. The remaining wiring suggests there was a second engine installed. There are also remnants of extra sense relays between the double hulls.
